Going To Take A Break

I'm going to take a well needed break from the blog.

I've mentioned in the past on several occasions I REEEALLY dislike the emails I get every time I don't post for several days in a row. I guess my personal reasons that keep me from posting for several days are not important enough and should not get in the way of posting, right? Well I guess some folks see it that way sadly.

Anyways, I'll see ya somewhere down the line, hopefully for summer tour.

Take care.

  10. Thanks so much, these are not my words but from someone I had the pleasure to meet on jam cruise.I will pass this along...

    Dear Friends,

There'll be a day where you'll just want to throw in the towel and quit. Give up whatever you were fighting for just to have a little more sleep, a little more security, a little more companionship. I know you're tired, lonely, not understood by your friends, family, townies or whatever. Everybody around you is pissing you off, you're over worked, underpaid and nobody gives a shit. It would seem like you can't complain to anyone because people will call you selfish. It's like you woke up one day and you feel like a completely different person than you were yesterday.. Like you’ve become a stranger in your own body.

I'm going to be honest with you, I hate growing up and I’ve been running away from it my whole life. Waking up everyday with less energy, flatter fro, bigger worries, less enthusiasm and more insecurities. When you're younger, you feel invincible. Never taking No as an answer, living in the moment and walking through life without a chip on your shoulder. Then one day you look at yourself in the mirror and don’t recognize the person on the other side of that glass anymore. This is life.. It's not fair at times, It's going to get harder before it gets easier and if you choose to not follow the "path" it's going to be even harder. But let me tell you something, it's better to feel pain than nothing at all because we will never appreciate anything we’ve accomplished if it was just given to us. We have to earn it and we have to want it bad enough.. Because there are too many other people who only want it half as bad.

  11. I’ve been living in a van for ten plus years now. I've seen more gas stations than I’ve seen my own home. Slept on more dirty couches than my own bed. My body hurts from all the drugs, Alcohol, and 4 hour sleep cycles. My Afro is starting to look like a Sheep's behind, and it smells like the resin from a pipe you left in your pipe from a decade ago.. but you know what.. I’m still fighting for what I believe in.. and that's inner happiness.

So if you can, look yourself in the mirror and genuinely ask yourself how YOU are doing? Not how your friends, family, dog, co-worker, etc are doing, but how YOU are doing. Are YOU sad? Happy? Lonely? Hungry for something? Are YOU doing something that you really want to do? Or doing it because someone else is telling you to? How are we going to love and support others if we can't love and support ourselves... Well first things first.. start trusting yourself.

We need to realize that you can have it all, but you can't have it all at once, so take your memories where you can get them because at the end of your days when you’re sitting on your death bed, you're going to have to look yourself in the mirror and be ok with what you did and what you have tried to accomplish in your life. You’re going to win some, you’re going to lose some.. but either way, the sun is always going to come up the next day. Remember that you are in control of your destiny.. don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. So whatever you're fighting for.. It might be Love, Security, Happiness, Freedom or (in my case) that next great performance.. Don't ever stop. Yes, there will be road bumps on your journey..Yes, you will fall on your ass (way) more then once and Yes, you might have to do it alone but never give up. Fight until you can't fight anymore. Give it all you can and eventually you will get what you were searching for.

  12. Being brave requires us to be vulnerable and if that day comes where your dreams don't make you happy anymore.. no need to worry. Because bravery will help you find something that does. Challenge yourself; find something in your life that you are willing to get a black eye over and never stop fighting for the change you want to see in your world.

Its time to take the power back.. this is your life, not theirs.

    Be broke but never broken,

    Andy

  14. Thank you so much for all the great shares! I only recently discovered your blog and quite frankly this will give me time to really appreciate all I’ve accumulated since then. Enjoy the refresh and we’ll see you when and if you decide to return. Until then...
    PEACE!

  15. As always, thanks for all you do. You certainly deserve some time off after going so hard since 2015. Just know we all appreciate what you provide for this community, and those who don't are obviously too greedy for their own good, and don't deserve your time. Hopefully we'll all have our fearless leader back eventually but until then, enjoy your hiatus/retirement.

  16. Jooge, peace to you my friend. For those who do not appreciate your space, I am sorry; but please know that you are so very respected by almost all of us. Take care of yourself as you truly deserve it. I will send along a Jooge smile every time I play music, just for you. Peace to you brother.

  23. Jooge...IF you're not back by Summer tour and if someone had similar resources (ok...like half the resources cuz you drop some very eclectic & rare shit) would you take issue with them starting a similar blog? You're pretty well respected and thats due in part to the countless hours you spend bringing new music to total strangers. Mostly I think it's the length of time that you've kept this thing afloat that makes you so respected. It someone were to start a similar blog I think they should shut it down if/when you reopen yours. The only thing that has to be the same is the "one rule"...besides that they could run the blog as they wanted to. Ohh...and I don't think they should ever put up the same show as you have already done. The collection would have to be 100% unique.
Based upon that preliminary criteria what are your thoughts? Be straight up and don't worry about hurting anyone's (my) feelings with your response.

A well-deserved rest for you and also for my hard drives! :D Rest and have a good time whatever you do. Hasta pronto, amigo!

  32. Your site has been amazing for sustained musical brilliance for so long. You have allowed me to get into so many bands. Twiddle Spafford Green Sky Stringdusters to name a few. Disgusting treatment by a small minority has rightly angered you. I do hope you come back soon after a much deserved rest. Thanks for so many musical memories. Hopefully we can share the summer tours together if it fits into your busy schedule. God bless you Jooge!

  42. Jooge,

While I am sad to read that the ingrates visiting your bright spot on the internet have made a mess of things, I am happy to know that you are taking a well deserved and likely much needed break from taking care of everyone here. I am inexplicably grateful for all of your efforts, the positivity and happiness you've shared and provided, and hope to see you shortly once summer tour is in swing. Rest well, be well, and take care of yourself!

    Many thanks,

  50. I'm sorry that you've been given a hard time by a couple of bad actors. I doubt you know the degree to which your blog is important not only to me, but to the scene as a whole. Everyone I know in the scene checks out your blog on the reg. Thank you for your diligent curation. Hopefully we'll see you on down the line.

  51. Jooge seriously deserves a vacation. This guy has posted non-stop for years now. I've thought to myself many many times just how much of a full time job this blog must be for the Jooge-meister. I'm so happy for Jooge that he is allowing himself to do this. Jooge is so selfless and caring -- The last thing any of us want is for Jooge to stop caring for himself. Much love to the Jooge. I hope his time off bring him as much joy as he's given to all of us

  61. Hey Jooge, the break is indeed well-deserved. Despite the harassing nature of certain correspondence you describe, your loyal followers most certainly should be appreciative, I for one am.

While I'll be sad to visit The Curtain With only to find there are no new posts, there remains a wealth of material to discover and enjoy, the high-quality live music as well as the rare out-of-print and practically impossible to find titles you so graciously share.

Incidentally, I thoroughly enjoy the image you chose for this post, Jesse Lang's Magical Mushrooms 1 from Dark Geometry. It immediately caught my attention because I mistook it for a piece by Dale Chihuly, world-famous mostly for his glass sculptures. The many Chihuly installations and the exhibits I've attended have made me a true admirer. I was privileged enough to have met him through mutual association with Rhode Island School of Design, he was a professor there into the late 60's. If you like the Magical Mushrooms series by Jesse Lang, check out the real-deal by Chihuly at his website, https://www.chihuly.com/.

Know that you'll be missed. Cheers, your friend Bear-in-Mind...

  64. Jooge - thx for all of it brother - I completely understand on a personal level - understand the effort that goes into all of it - the good and bad vibes you get [mostly good] from 'followers' - I stopped posting to KAT/TPB/Demonoid a few years back for same reasons - so brother, again thx for everything. If your journey brings you back to us great...if not, then keep on rockin brother ~ peace

  65. Thanks so much! You deserve a break, hopefully I'll see you on the road this summer! Still finding new-to-me gems in your collection, excited to dig into the Herbie Hancock Collection I just found!

If you decide to come back, we'll be happily waiting!

  66. Damn. This was site has been a part of my morning/afternoon flow every day for over a year. You've done a masterful job of finding the best shows, the best bands, and without bias. I hope this hiatus is only a very temporary moment, because you have a lot of people that respect and appreciate you more than you know. Enjoy the break and the ones nearest to you. Much love!

  67. Man, I wonder if there is anyone who can actually keep up with how much you post! If someone is giving you a hard time, they deserve a swift kick in the nuts! You deserve a break-- hope to meet you on summer tour or something :D

  71. Thanks sooooo much for all you have shared!!! I'm surprised you continued to post as often as you did, for as long as you did. I hope one day you post some music again, but if not thanks again for sharing what you have! If there is ever music you think more people should hear maybe you could always just post a written recommendation and let us seek out the tunes ourselves, however infrequent. Mucho Gracias once more!

  73. To re-echo the sentiments shared by others: Thank you for all you post here, and I am surprised and saddened to hear of ungrateful people nagging you about posting more.

I don't spend much time on this site, but was just thinking recently that I should go back through the torrents I've gotten from here and make sure I'm seeding all of them. Take care man
